Proviron (mesterolone), also known as Provironum in some parts of the world, is an androgen replacement therapy which boosts testosterone levels. It may be prescribed to treat depression, infertility and hypogonadism (low testosterone).

Proviron treatment should start with an official diagnosis; testosterone levels influence many of the body's systems and altering those levels can produce a wide range of undesirable effects. Some men notice improvements after just a few days of use, but it will take about a month of consistent treatment for full effects to be realized. If no improvements are observed after a couple of months, alternative therapies should be considered.

For the entire length of treatment regular checkups are vital to monitor effectiveness, adjust dosage if necessary, and to monitor any developing side effects. Prostate exams and liver function tests are an important part of these checkups.

Side Effects & Safety

Though a relatively mild testosterone therapy, women should avoid use. It may still produce undesirable side effects of enhancing male characteristics, such as facial hair. It may disrupt organ development in children, including boys who aren't yet sexually mature. Children and women who are pregnant or nursing should not handle tablets; small amounts may be absorbed through the skin.

Some types of cancer, particularly prostate cancer, are stimulated by exposure to testosterone. Men with prostrate cancer, or at high risk of developing it, should not buy Proviron.

Proviron is unlikely to cause damage to the liver but it may aggravate existing problems; men with liver issues should discuss risks with a doctor before use.

The most common side effects associated with Proviron are headache and mild nausea. These symptoms often disappear after the body becomes used to treatment.
